Catering at the Zoo, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo’s event-planning, catering and banquet venue, has received a 2019 Couple’s Choice 5-star rating from wedding website WeddingWire, Inc., thanks to rave reviews from couples who said “I do” at the zoo.
Catering at the Zoo was started by the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo 15 years ago as a way to fulfill the many requests to hold weddings, social events and corporate gatherings in the zoo’s unique setting, said Friends of the Zoo President Janet Agostini. It has grown into a premiere catering service and event venue that hosts about 35 weddings a year.
“The Zoo was amazing,” wrote one 2018 bride. “The food was excellent, the environment was perfect. The staff worked really hard to make our vision of the room a reality. Brittany was great to work with. And we came in under budget. I can’t recommend it highly enough.”
“Five stars isn’t enough!” 2018 bride Amanda Tschudi wrote on Facebook. “The place is beautiful, food was delicious; I’m still craving more of the chicken cordon bleu. Many guests and vendors said it was the best food they had at a wedding. Can’t give enough praise to (events manager Brittany Waszkiewicz) and her staff for making everything go so smoothly. Thank you for making our wedding a fairy tale and so unique at the zoo. The sloth was an adorable surprise and a big hit.”
Besides a unique venue, Catering at the Zoo offers the ability to include an animal ambassador — or two — to greet guests and even rent the indoor or outdoor zoo for friends and family to enjoy as part of the festivities. Most importantly, Catering at the Zoo helps support animal care at the zoo and wildlife conservation projects around the world.
While the year 2020 is filling up fast with wedding bookings, the zoo still has some prime dates available to book weddings this summer and fall, said Waszkiewicz.
“We want to reassure couples who would like to tie the knot at the zoo that you don’t need a year to plan a wedding,” she said. “With the help of our events staff, you can plan the wedding of your dreams in just a few months’ time.” See a recent blog post on the subject here.
The zoo will hold a Wedding Open House on Saturday, Jan. 19, for couples considering the zoo as a 2019 wedding location.
The Open House from noon to 3 p.m. offers engaged couples an opportunity to tour the Catering at the Zoo facilities, speak with event and wedding experts and ask questions. Light refreshments will be served, and no RSVP is required.
