Planning a wedding – or a birthday, anniversary, retirement, or other big event – can be exhausting. Thank heavens there’s an event that showcases everything you need to plan a wedding or other special celebration under one roof for one-stop-shopping ease: The Leader Wedding Fair, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the Quality Inn, 1200 W. Gannon Drive, in Festus.
Representatives from wedding-related businesses will have booths throughout the hotel lobby and atrium area, representing everything from dresses, photos, flowers, cakes and food to jewelry, music and travel. Additional services, like financial institutions, home decor businesses, insurance and health care, will be represented as well.
Admission to the fair is $3 per person, with proceeds to benefit the Backstoppers, an organization that provides financial assistance and support to the spouses and dependent children of police officers and other first responders who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
This will be the 25th annual wedding fair put on by Leader Publications. Over its quarter-century history, the event has raised $42,931 for local charities.
“We’ve been really fortunate to be able to do this for 25 years now,” Leader publisher Pam LaPlant said. “It’s turned out to be a great resource for wedding planners, and we’ve been able to help out a lot of our local charities. And, it’s a lot of fun.”
A fashion show featuring wedding wear from White Weddings Bridal and Formalwear in Farmington will take place at 1 p.m. Local models will show off dresses for the bride as well as the bridal party, along with tuxedos for the men and fashions for all members of the wedding party.
At 2:30 p.m., Leader staff will host “The Newlywed Game,” with local celebrity couples vying for prizes and glory as they answer questions to see just how well they know their spouses.
Come join the fun
The vendor list for the Wedding Fair is filling up fast, but there are still spots available. Prospective vendors are welcome to call the Leader at 636-931-7560 for information. Once the list is full, they may be placed on a waiting list or to get a jump on next year’s fair.
Stories about engagements, weddings and anniversaries as well as preview articles about the fair will be published in the annual Wedding Fair special section that will come with the Jan. 24 issue of the Leader.
